Starbucks Opens First “Reserve Café” in Japan at Shinjuku Marui Main Building

Starbucks opened the first Starbucks Reserve Café in Japan on September 1, 2025, on the 2nd floor of Shinjuku Marui Main Building. The new format blends crafted espresso drinks with fresh Italian bakery items from Princi, with a focus on the Milanese way of enjoying coffee and pastries.

This café is set up as a simple, fast café-bakery. The star item is Cornetti (Italy’s style of croissant). Flavours include Tiramisu, Hazelnut Cream, and savoury options like Ham & Cheese. Starbucks highlights pairing Cornetti with espresso drinks and even dipping the pastry in coffee. Typical prices listed: Cornetti from ¥380, Cornetti Tiramisu ¥790.

Drinks span four coffee categories and include store-only items such as the Classic Double Tall Latte and the Starbucks Reserve Espresso Affogato Frappuccino (around ¥750–¥880 as examples). A Coffee Discovery Counter lets guests customise with ingredients not seen at standard stores, like cacao nibs, brown sugar, and mint powder.

From the equipment side, Starbucks Japan says the store uses the Clover Vertica™ brewing system for fresh-ground, made-to-order cups and offers four or more Reserve coffees daily. The brand’s concept message calls this a meeting point of Italy’s bar culture and Japan’s kissaten spirit.
