Jacques Marie Mage (JMM), the Los Angeles-based luxury eyewear brand founded in 2014 by French designer J\u00e9r\u00f4me Mage, has officially opened its first gallery in Japan. Located in Tokyo\u2019s upscale Omotesand\u014d district, the three-story space brings the brand\u2019s global vision into a uniquely Japanese setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gallery was designed in close collaboration with Simplicity, led by Shinichiro Ogata. Their shared vision emphasised the Japanese ideals of Kaizen<\/em> (continuous improvement) and Takumi<\/em> (master craftsmanship), manifesting in a minimalist, meditative environment that speaks to tradition and innovation alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As guests enter, they are greeted by the \u201cMother Ship\u201d space \u2014 a threshold clad entirely in Hinoki cypress. This sacred, calming material guides visitors toward a monumental calligraphy work by Daichiro Shinjo, who merges Zen and Okinawan spiritual aesthetics in his modern take on traditional script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Below ground lies the atelier: a quiet, thoughtful space where eyewear is hand-finished and personalised. A solid wood counter invites slow, focused conversations between wearer and frame, intentionally slowing down the retail experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upstairs, past a tranquil terrace, visitors find the gallery\u2019s salon \u2014 styled like a private captain\u2019s cabin. It houses JMM\u2019s jewellery and made-to-measure services, set beside a whiskey bar and a six-panel painted screen from the late Edo period. Museum-worthy artefacts \u2014 from 13th-century armour and Noh masks to Navajo rugs and 17th-century European optics \u2014 mingle with vintage furnishings, revealing the breadth of J\u00e9r\u00f4me Mage\u2019s inspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The basement also includes a Zen garden with a Japanese maple and traditional landscaping. In this serene setting, guests can enjoy tea and wagashi while being surrounded by another Shinjo calligraphy \u2014 an experience designed to evoke time, emotion, and sensory focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since August 26, 2025, the gallery at 5-9-7 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku has been open daily, welcoming visitors with a thoughtful, layered design rooted in Japanese cultural values and JMM\u2019s signature artistry<\/p>\n\n\n\n
