Tokyo Holds Its Ground as Asia’s Wealthiest City in 2025

In 2025, Tokyo continues to stand tall as the third wealthiest city globally, with 292,300 millionaires calling it home. This puts Tokyo just behind New York and the U.S. Bay Area, and firmly at the top of Asia’s wealth rankings.

This strong showing is partly fueled by a recent rebound in the Nikkei 225 stock index. Despite modest millionaire growth of only 4% over the past decade, Tokyo’s wealth remains largely steady.

By comparison, Singapore sits in fourth place with 242,400 millionaires but boasts a much stronger growth rate of 62% over the same period.

Los Angeles rounds out the top five, with 220,600 millionaires and 516 centi-millionaires (those with over USD 100 million). London, meanwhile, has slipped to sixth place amid a 12% decline in its wealthy population over the past decade.

Globally, New York leads with 384,500 millionaires, while the Bay Area holds steady in second place with 342,400 and an impressive 98% growth rate over ten years.

Beyond sheer numbers, Tokyo’s distribution of wealth leans toward well-established millionaires rather than ultra-rich elites. The city has 262 centi-millionaires and 18 billionaires, relatively modest figures compared to other major cities.
