Junaida “World” Original Art Exhibition

Celebrated illustrator junaida brings his acclaimed picture book Sekai (World) to life in an extraordinary exhibition. Running for a limited time, this unique showcase invites visitors to experience the magic of Sekai through a bold and innovative concept: just two original illustrations are on display.

Why Only Two Pieces?

While the 33-page Sekai is brimming with vivid and intricate illustrations, the exhibition presents only two pieces: the book’s cover art and a single expansive composition that makes up the rest of the story. This choice underscores the book’s most astonishing feature—the 30-page sequence of illustrations is one cohesive masterpiece. Seen up close, the sheer density, precision, and imagination behind the artwork promise a truly mesmerizing experience for every viewer.

This exhibition marks the first-ever public display of the original illustrations from Sekai. With no plans yet for future exhibitions, this is a rare opportunity to witness junaida’s unparalleled craftsmanship in person.

About Sekai: A World of Endless Wonder

Published in January 2024 by Fukuinkan Shoten, Sekai has been celebrated as a boundary-breaking picture book. At first glance, its simple cover design offers little clue to the rich, vibrant, and dreamlike world waiting within. Junaida’s artistry transports readers to a universe brimming with life, colour, and interconnected stories.

What sets Sekai apart is its ability to weave complex narratives and emotions into a “wordless” picture book. It’s a visual journey of imagination, where every page invites the viewer to explore endless possibilities.

Special Edition Sekai Sekai: Limited Release

To commemorate the exhibition, a special edition titled “Sekai Sekai” was crafted, combining:

  1. The original Sekai book.
  2. A draft version of Sekai, showcasing pencil sketches on premium paper.
  3. The Crown Box, a bespoke case meticulously designed to house both books.

Unfortunately, due to manufacturing issues with the Crown Box, the release of this limited edition has been postponed. However, fans can still purchase other Sekai-themed merchandise, such as reversible posters and pin badges, at select locations, including TOBICHI Tokyo and Daikanyama Tsutaya Books.
