Cate Blanchett Becomes UNIQLO’s Global Brand Ambassador

Japanese fashion giant UNIQLO has appointed actor Cate Blanchett as its new global brand ambassador. In this role, Blanchett will support initiatives that reflect the company’s LifeWear philosophy—a vision centered on timeless design, quality, simplicity, and contributing to society.

A Celebrated Career in Film and Theatre

Born in Australia in 1969, Blanchett is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished actors of her generation. She has starred in acclaimed films such as Tár, Carol, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, and Elizabeth. Beyond the screen, she has earned numerous awards for her stage performances on Broadway in New York and London’s West End.

Offstage, Blanchett is equally influential. She serves as co-artistic director and co-CEO of the Sydney Theatre Company and is co-founder of Dirty Films, a production company known for its innovative projects. Her influence extends into fashion as well—she is often celebrated as a style icon, frequently appearing on international best-dressed lists.

Humanitarian and Environmental Advocacy

Blanchett’s achievements go far beyond the entertainment industry. She is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), supporting refugees and displaced communities worldwide. Her ongoing work includes:

  • Trustee of the Earthshot Prize, an environmental award founded by Prince William.
  • Founding ambassador of the Millennium Seed Bank, a global plant preservation project run by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
  • Trustee of the National Theatre of the United Kingdom.
  • Patron of the NIDA Foundation, which operates Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art, and of the Sydney Film Festival.
  • Supporter of conservation and arts organizations, including the Australian Conservation Foundation, Actors’ Charitable Trust, SAG-AFTRA Foundation, and the Australian Wildlife Conservation Society.

Voices from UNIQLO and Blanchett

Tadashi Yanai, Chairman and CEO of Fast Retailing, UNIQLO’s parent company, highlighted Blanchett’s broad influence:

“Blanchett is one of the greatest actors of her generation, with a long history of success in both stage and film. But her achievements go beyond entertainment. She has served as a role model for women, a mentor for young professionals, and a passionate advocate for humanitarian and environmental causes. Through this partnership, UNIQLO will work with Blanchett to bring about positive change in society.”

Blanchett expressed her admiration for UNIQLO’s mission:

“I admire UNIQLO’s ambition to improve people’s lives through LifeWear—timeless design, perfect simplicity, affordable, accessible, and long-lasting, high-quality clothing. Supporting future generations, addressing the global displacement crisis, contributing to communities, and striving for a more equitable world are all vital aspects of the LifeWear philosophy. I am honored to be part of UNIQLO’s efforts.”

She also added:

“It is a great honor to be reunited with my long-time friend Clare Waight Keller, and to have the opportunity to interact with UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador Roger Federer.”
