Architect Hiroshi Naito— Notebooks and Sketches

Discover the innovative mind of renowned architect Hiroshi Naito in his latest exhibition, “Notebooks and Sketches,” now open at Kioi Seido in Tokyo. Running from July 1 to September 30, 2025, this free exhibition offers a rare glimpse into Naito’s creative process over the past four decades.

✍️ What to Expect

The exhibition is divided into several thematic sections:

  • 1st Floor: “Memorial to the Great East Japan Earthquake”
  • 2nd Floor: “Mandala of Words”
  • 3rd to 5th Floors: A chronological display of Naito’s personal notebooks, sketches, conceptual diagrams, travel sketches, architectural drawings, and photographs.

Naito, known for designing landmarks such as the Sea Folk Museum and the Makino Museum of Plants and People, has meticulously documented his thoughts and ideas in practical planners since 1985. This exhibition showcases his dedication to capturing inspiration and refining concepts over time.

Exhibition Tips

Located at 3-1 Kioi-cho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Kioi Seido is easily accessible via a 5-minute walk from Kojimachi Station (Exit 2) on the Yurakucho Line, or a 6-minute walk from Akasaka-mitsuke Station on the Ginza and Marunouchi Lines. The exhibition is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the last admission at 3:30 PM. Please note that the venue will be closed on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays, and specific dates: August 12, 14, 16, and September 23.
