Kyoto Matcha Stand “Hachijū-hachi” Opens in Shibuya

A Kyoto matcha stand, Hachijū-hachi (八十八良葉舎), opened a second Tokyo shop in 奥渋 (Shibuya, Kamiyama-dori) on 1 July 2025. It sits a short walk from Yoyogi Park and brings the brand’s Uji teas to the neighbourhood.

The shop keeps the menu focused and carefully made. The signature is the “抹茶ラテ 壱” — each cup is whisked to order. They also serve a rich “Hachijū-hachi Shake”, a summer matcha kakigōri (shaved ice) called “八十八氷”, and a Shibuya-only monaka (八十八最中) with house-made matcha. Prices listed in the press writeups: matcha latte about ¥800, shake ¥1,000, monaka ¥400, and kakigōri ¥1,600 (menu items and prices may change).

The interior mixes tradition and modern touches: a central rounded counter with a textured “naguri” top and a neon sign. There is also a terrace for takeout and pet owners. The shop adds indoor seating compared with some other stands, so you can sit and take your time.

If you like high-quality Uji matcha, small boutique cafés, or a quiet stop near Yoyogi Park, this is worth trying. The Shibuya location is quieter than the station centre, so it’s a good pit stop after a walk in the park.
