LOEWE is set to unveil its inaugural large-scale exhibition, “Crafted World,” in Tokyo’s Harajuku district. This immersive showcase, running from March 29 to May 11, 2025, offers visitors a deep dive into LOEWE’s rich heritage, innovative collaborations, and unwavering dedication to craftsmanship.
A Journey Through 179 Years of Craftsmanship
Founded in 1846 as a leather workshop in Madrid, LOEWE has evolved into a global fashion powerhouse. The “Crafted World” exhibition chronicles this evolution, highlighting the brand’s milestones and its commitment to the art of craft. Visitors can expect to see iconic pieces such as the silver-foil-finished hand-carved walnut collar coat from the 2024 Autumn/Winter Women’s Collection, the whimsical melon clutch bag, and custom attire worn by Beyoncé during her 2023 Renaissance World Tour.

Celebrating Japanese Artistry
LOEWE’s deep-rooted connection with Japan is a focal point of the exhibition. The brand’s collaborations with renowned Japanese creatives, including Kyoto-based ceramicists Suna Fujita and the legendary animation house Studio Ghibli, are prominently featured. A standout installation is the “castle room,” showcasing a monumental paper reproduction of the Studio Ghibli castle bag, meticulously crafted by OMA’s Rotterdam team.

Architectural Excellence by OMA
The exhibition space itself is a testament to innovative design, conceptualized by the architectural firm OMA, known for their work on London’s Design Museum. The layout not only enhances the storytelling of LOEWE’s journey but also provides an immersive experience that reflects the brand’s avant-garde approach to fashion and art.

Exclusive Insights into Cultural Collaborations
In addition to fashion artifacts, the exhibition delves into LOEWE’s cultural projects within Japan. Attendees can view a documentary on the Ōnishi family, who have been crafting tea ceremony kettles in Kyoto for over four centuries. Works by Japanese artists such as Shōdai Tanabe Chiku’unsai, Moe Watanabe, and Genta Ishizuka, all finalists or winners of the LOEWE Foundation Craft Prize, are also on display, highlighting the brand’s support for traditional and contemporary crafts.
